November 16, 2019 Rachel's Letter "My Conversion"

Dear Sister Elgaaen,

Wow this feels so funny calling you the same thing as I call Ann, but its both of y'all's title haha. I know I just emailed you but I'm sorry I have to send you another one. I was driving and felt the need to tell you about how I met Ann. You can share this with the whole family, it doesn't matter to me. :) This goes a little back. My life has been a strange one for sure. I was originally baptized into the church in May of 2017, a couple of weeks before I graduated high school. I went to college in August of 17 and I met what would turn out to be my best friend, Mikayla. I was granted many scholarships to college but I had a really hard time my first semester, during that time I had gotten into a bad wreck and became really depressed, so I was far from home and unmotivated. I was not active in church much. My second semester I had lost some scholarships and had to take out some student loans. After May of 18 I didn't want to go back to school. I moved in with my friend MiKayla and her family because I had no where to go. Her family was very worldly and I had started going back to church. I met someone online through FamilySearch and move to Utah in with her August 2018. I had the worst 9 days of my life and I moved back to Texas, Fort Worth, TX with Mikayla. I LOVE Forth Worth soooo much and North Texas. If I was going to live in Texas it was going to be North Texas. A month passes and Mikayla found out she was pregnant. I lived with them until Jan on 2019. In January I went back to school on student loans, on the weekends I went back to Fort Worth and worked on the weekends, staying at my room at Mikayla's house. So it gets around May and she was about to have her baby. My room at their house got turned into the baby's room, which meant the second my semester was up I was going to be kicked out of my dorm and be homeless again. I didn't have much money saved up since I had to use my checks for bills and food. I asked everyone in my classes if they had a room for rent. A friend of a friend had a room for rent in Galveston, TX. Without her telling me anything about her house or family, I jumped on the offer. A week later I had moved to Galveston, TX. I was so heart broken. I DID NOT want to move 5 hours away from my best friend, to a new place that I've never been before. I moved here and worked. I thought Mikayla's family was bad, haha I had never met the Hansons before. I lived in HOT Galveston with no AC working 60 hours a week. I was extremely lonely. I really didn't enjoy life at this time. I was SO mad that I had to move here. I was mad that my friend got pregnant. After a couple of months I was crying at one of my jobs and a girl asked me what was wrong. I told her my living situation and she offered me to rent a room from her and her boyfriend. On September 13th I had the Spirit tell me that I needed to go back to the Church. I learned from the Galveston Sisters until I moved to La Marque, TX (which is about 15 mins from Texas City). I moved the 23rd of September to the new area. I was supposed to go to Boston that weekend, but I canceled my trip because I wanted to go to church instead (Sister Elgaaen and Lewis don't know about that) and was never refunded because I didn't buy the protection plans. I had called the Brach President's wife on accident (thinking it was the Sisters) and she gave me their #. I had called them that week and went to church that Sunday (Sept 29) with them and its gone from there. I haven't missed church since the Spirit told me to go back (sept 15-now). I had reached out to the Sisters to re-teach me. I've spent time with them multiple times a week since that last week in September. This is the story for how I met Ann. I see now that Heavenly Father sent me to Galveston so that I could return to church and meet her and everyone else. I don't think I would have rejoined if I had remained in Fort Worth living with Mikayla. Heavenly Father had to separate me from everyone telling me not to go back and those negative environments that I was living in so that I could be where I am today. Now, Im not exactly thrilled to be living in the Houston area, but I'm soooo blessed that all this happened! I'm so blessed. I was brought very low and Heavenly Father used those lows to lift me higher and show me the way back. I know that Heavenly Father has a unique plan for all of us, that He loves us, the Joseph Smith Jr was a prophet, that the Book of Mormon is true, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His restored church. I type/say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thank you so much for for everything!!
Love
Rachel

November 11, 2019 You Can Try as Hard as You Want Satan, But We Will Never Stop Peddling!

Hey family and friends!
This week has been AWESOME!!
My new companion is sister Wilde and she is the BEST!!! She is so happy and positive and we defiantly NEVER stop giggling haha.
This week we were able to visit a lot of people in the area so sister Wilde can get to know them.
We have made a few goals, one of which is to do some member service for at least one member each week.
In the past we have made hats for people, painted nails and done yard work. As a missionary sometimes we focus more on finding and less on the members, but every one needs support!

This week has been a little colder then normal, it got down to 48!!!
I know that that's not cold compared to Utah and other places, but we are on bikes...
There was one time when we were biking against the strong wind, our dresses kept flying above our knees, it was pouring rain and I just yelled "you can try as hard as you want Satan, but we will NEVER stop peddling!!"
Sister Wilde and I were laughing too much to notice the cold any more.
It is so important for us to never let Satan get us down. He will try everything, but if you continue to hold to the iron rod, you will never fall away!!
I love you all!! There are miracles happening in Texas City every day!!

Keep being happy and remember you can either choose to laugh or cry, but crying can give you headaches, so choose to laugh!!

November 4, 2019 Lead Me Guide Me!

Hey family and friends!!
Transfer news came!! Sister Lewis will be leaving to ceana plantation. We have had the BEST time together. She is the happiest sweetest person in the world and I know she will bless so many people's lives as she moves to a different area.
My new companion will be sister Wilde!

Miracle:

While tracting about a month ago, we stopped at a house and knocked. We were taken inside and pounded with questions about the gospel. We were flipping through our book of Mormon and pulling up scripture after scripture to be repeatedly shot down. This was your typical bible bash.
The spirit was lacking and although we refrained from arguing, we were more focused on finding evidence then we were on letting the spirit enter their hearts and testify of the truthfulness of our message.

It got to the point were we could hardly get a word into the conversation, until from the far end of the couch a young boy sat up and looked straight at his parents. He began to speak up for us and desired for them to just listen to what we had to say.
After that they were completely quiet.
We gave the boy a book of Mormon and spoke of the restoration and the importance of the Book.
He took it gratefully.

That moment slipped from our minds as the weeks past by, until one day, at service, the young boy and his grandma appear. They express their desire for us to return to their house and as their truck pulled away we realized we had NO idea where their house was!

The next day we set a goal to visit this little family. Knowing we didn't know where the house was located we asked heavenly father for help. We prayed that our bikes would be guided straight to their house, and then we started peddling.

We went down the street, but none of the houses or streets were even familiar. We have biked their many times before but it was as if we were in a whole new area. Finally after quite a few turns we were passing a street and it was like a light had turned on. We recognized the street!! We turned left but quickly switched directions when it didn't feel quite right. As we moved forward Sister Lewis gasped
"The house is right there!!"

Of all the streets in Texas, we were lead to the one house we had prayed to be lead to. There were times during the journey where we felt lost, where we doubted the direction we had turned or the distance we had traveled, but despite all of that, we kept peddling!

This was NO coincidence! Heavenly Father knows each and every one of his children. He hears your prayers!! We must learn that heavenly father knows what is best for each of us, and all we have to do is keep peddling, and eventually we will reach our destination.

I love you All and I pray for you!
Have an AMAZING week!

Love,
Sister Elgaaen

October 28, 2019 Miracle After Miracle

Hey family and friends!
This week has been amazing and SO fast! Can you believe I only have one more week until transfers!! This week started out and I was on exchanges with sister Hardy who is the SWEETEST sister in the world!!

Tuesday october 22, 6:35 a.m. we get a text from Rachael, one of the people we are teaching

 This was the text:
"Good morning sisters! Sister Elgaaen, something really discouraging and bad happened last night. When y'all finish with exchanges tonight, please let me know. I really really really have to talk to you and Sister Lewis in person..."

You can probably imagine the confusion and worry we were experiencing. Possibilities of what could have occurred rushed through my mind. Did she get fired from her job? Did she get in a car accident? Is she sick?
Scenario after scenario rushed through my mind.

Frantically I looked at the schedual for the day. There was no possible way we could meet that day. We had appointment after appointment lined up!
I looked to sister Hardy who was on exchanges with me and I said "let's pray for her."
We knelt on the floor and offered a prayer for Rachael.

Soon after, we recieve a text from the lady we had a schedualed appointment with, she said:
"Girls, I hate to, but we need to reschedule..."
I knew in that moment that we needed to meet with Rachael that night. We quickly texted her that our night just opened and she said she would pick us up at 7.
The whole day she was on my mind, we live in Texas for heavens sakes!! Not even a month ago a man in a nearby apartment complex shot someone else! Knife fights are constant and gun activity is frequent!

When we exchanged back that night sister Lewis and I waited anxiously for Rachael to pick us up. When she did, her car was in perfect shape and so was she.

We drove to the church where we have our lessons.
When we arrived at the church Sister Lewis and I asked Rachael what had happened.
She told us that she had met with Presient Wilsead last night and she wasn't going to be able to he baptised for a long time.

Our hearts sunk, we knew how badly she wanted this! She goes around at night and hands out book of Mormon after book of mormon!! She loves the gospel with all her heart and KNOWS that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints is TRUE!

She continued and pulled something out of her bag,
"Because you might not be here for the baptism, I wanted to give you each a little something."
She handed us each a card which obviously held something inside. She told us not to open them yet.
She pulled out her phone and then began recording.
When she said to open the letter I did so slowly, Sister Lewis began immediately freaking out and laughing. I looked down at the letter and there was a few cute stickers covering the letter, so I had to move those aside to read what was written. The letter said:
"Dear Sister Elgaaen, will you please do me the honor of being a witness at my baptism on November 2nd 2019?"
--Rachael

The joy that filled me when I read those words is indescribable! RACHAEL IS GETTING BAPTISED!!!!!!!

I love this gospel and I know that Rachael does too. She doesn't just have a testimony, she is Truly converted to the Lord!

I admit it, she tricked us!! I was absolutely convinced that something terrible had happened to her, but it was the complete opposite!

This was definitely a HUGE miracle!!

I love you All so much! I hope you had an amazing Week as well!! Keep being awesome!
